The Key to Convenience
With MINI Digital Key, simply hold your compatible mobile device near the door handle to unlock. With Digital Key Plus, your MINI can recognize you as you approach and lock again as you walk away, depending on model and device compatibility.
Easy to Activate
Setup starts with the MINI Digital Key Setup Card. Hold the card to your smartphone, follow the prompts, then complete activation inside your MINI with the physical key.
A Warm Welcome
On compatible models, your MINI can greet you as you approach with lighting and welcome animation. Once inside, your MINI ID profile settings can be ready to go.
Share Access
Depending on your MINI, device and software, Digital Key access can be shared with trusted users, with some settings and permissions available on compatible models.

1. Check Compatibility
Make sure your MINI model and mobile device meet the requirements for MINI Digital Key functions.
2. Use the Setup Card
Hold the Setup Card to your smartphone or scan the QR code, then download the MINI App and create your MINI ID.
3. Approve Pairing
During setup, hold the Setup Card to your smartphone again and follow the instructions to begin pairing.
4. Activate the Key
When you first enter your MINI with the physical key, activate the Digital Key in your smartphone wallet.
Service Card
A temporary key whenever you need one.
Whether your MINI is in for service, using valet parking or being detailed, the Service Card can act as an additional key. Keep the deactivated card with you in your MINI. When needed, place the Service Card on the smartphone tray and confirm activation.
Digital Sharing
Pass the keys, digitally.
With MINI Digital Key, compatible vehicles can allow access sharing with trusted users. Depending on the model and device, rights and roles may be adapted, from broader vehicle functions to restricted access.
For example, when sharing with a newer driver, some compatible setups may allow restrictions such as limited acceleration or top speed.

What if my smartphone runs out of battery?
In many compatible setups, you may still be able to unlock and start your MINI for a limited time after your phone enters power reserve mode. Availability and duration can vary by device, operating system and settings.
How secure is MINI Digital Key?
MINI Digital Key is stored securely on compatible smartphones or smartwatches and communicates using local technologies such as NFC and, where supported, ultra-wideband. Once set up, mobile service or internet connectivity may not be required for basic key use.
What if my phone is lost or stolen?
Use your physical key to enter your MINI, then remove the Digital Key from the vehicle's Digital Key menu where supported. Shared keys can also be revoked from the wallet app or vehicle display, depending on device and model.
What happens when I get a new phone?
Digital wallet certificates are not automatically transferred to a new phone. Set up MINI Digital Key again on your new compatible device using the Setup Card, and keep the physical key available during the transition.
What is the difference between Digital Key and Digital Key Plus?
MINI Digital Key uses NFC, which means you hold your compatible device near the door handle to lock or unlock and place it in the wireless charging tray to start. Digital Key Plus uses ultra-wideband and Bluetooth on compatible models, allowing more seamless access as you approach or walk away.
